FlyDubai Negotiating Flight Resumption Details with Somaliland Authorities

FlyDubai, a low-cost airlines company, is in negotiations with Somaliland authorities on resuming international flights to the country.

Recently, FlyDubai announced plans to resume flights to and from Egal International Airport in Somaliland.

Authorities in Somaliland banned flights from FlyDubai and Al-Arabiya from entering the country’s airspace in March 2020.

At the time, the Director of Somaliland’s Civil Aviation and Airports Authority accused both Emirati-owned airlines of “lacking a formal agreement with the country.”

The Office of the Attorney General in Hargeisa joined the Director of the Civil Aviation and Airports Authority in confirming the legality of the flight ban.

A spokesperson from the airlines confirmed to the media that negotiations between representatives from FlyDubai and Somaliland’s Council of Ministers are ongoing.

However, the saga kicked off last year after FlyDubai and Al-Arabiya obeyed last year’s orders from the Federal Government of Somalia to suspend their flights to Somaliland.
