FNP Hails Dhusamareb Deal While Calling for More Consultations

Somalia’s opposition coalition, the Forum for National Parties (FNP), has hailed the deal signed last week in Dhusamareb.

FNP said that the deal was “one step forward” for the country.

However, it noted that the leaders behind the deal must now bring all stakeholders on board to make it more inclusive.

Some of the stakeholders FNP mentioned include Jubbaland and Puntland.

The two semiautonomous regions of Somalia decided against attending the deal because of the absence of a guarantor from the international community.

Furthermore, Puntland and Jubbaland have both called the deal a “personal pact” between the parties at the Dhusamareb III talks.

Additionally, FNP also called upon the Lower House and Upper House to resolve their differences before the Dhusamareb is brought to them for debate and adoption.

The coalition urged the country’s leadership to form a technical committee comprising the civil society and political parties to allow them to take part in the electoral process too.
