Forum for National Parties (FNP), the coalition of opposition parties in Somalia, has urged the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and Federal Member States (FMS) to implement Dhusamareb II agreement.
FNP released a press statement indicating that the ongoing talks in Galmudug’s administrative capital of Dhusamareb would only attract more support if the leaders attending them fulfilled their previous agreements.
Dhusamareb III is currently going on in Dhusamareb. President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo of FGS and three other regional leaders representing Galmudug, HirShabelle, and Southwest states are at the meeting.
However, leaders from Puntland and Jubbaland have opted to give the ongoing talks a wide berth until certain conditions are met. These include a commitment from FGS to hold timely elections and the presence of a guarantor from the international community at the talks.
One of the previous agreements that Farmaajo’s camp is accused of breaking is the need for holding elections on November 2020 and February 2021 as previously scheduled. FNP also cited the inability of the government to guarantee that it would not extend its term in office.
