The Forum for National Parties, a coalition of opposition parties, has welcomed the new electoral deal signed between the Federal Government of Somalia and Federal Member States in Mogadishu yesterday.
Leaders representing FGS and FMS met in Mogadishu for the last two weeks to strike a deal on the electoral model the country should use in the upcoming elections. They also agreed on several other issues on Thursday, September 17.
On Friday, FNP issued a press release offering their support to the newly signed agreement.
In the press release, which is dated September 18, the coalition highlights its firm belief on the importance of a “peaceful transition.” Further, it mentioned that such a transition is only possible through viable electoral model.
FNP asserted its belief that the country has made the first step towards avoiding the illegal and unconstitutional extension of mandate or terms of elected leaders. It also reiterated the fact that the country would not collapse into a political or constitutional crisis.
