Foreign Affairs Minister Latest Prominent Somali to Test Positive for COVID-19

Mohamed Abdirizak has become the latest prominent leader in Somalia to test positive for COVID-19.

Abdirizak is the Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS).

On February 23, Abdirizak confirmed the news to the public.

He issued a statement that his test results came back positive. At the time, Abdirizak had returned to Somalia from an official visit to Burundi.

Abdirizak said that he is on day 8 of the mandatory quarantine, as advised by the World Health Organization (WHO) and Somalia’s Ministry of Health.

The foreign affairs minister expressed deep concern over the surging cases in Somalia.

Therefore, he has encouraged members of the public to observe the protocols recommended by the health ministry to curb the spread of the disease.

Recently, the health ministry announced resurgence of the deadly disease.

Over the last month, the Horn of Africa nation has witnessed a seismic rise in the number of confirmed cases.
