Foreign Affairs Ministry Condemns Opposition Politicians for Violence against FGS Forces

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned opposition politicians in Somalia for clashing with the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) troops in Mogadishu on February 19.

On Friday, government troops clashed with security guards hired to protect opposition politicians who planned to organize an anti-government rally in Mogadishu.

The rally was to take place at Daljirka Dahson Monument in Mogadishu.

On Thursday night, gunshots were heard in the area as police officers arrived at the scene a few hours after opposition politicians inspected the grounds where their rally was to take place.

According to the foreign affairs ministry, violence was meted against government forces.

Furthermore, the ministry accused the opposition presidential candidates of “instigating chaos.”

In its press statement, the ministry urged opposition politicians to wait for elections, which it calls “the only course for transition.”

The ministry directed politicians from the opposition not to seek transition through “fostering constitutional crisis” or “supporting insurrection.”
