Owners and crew of foreign vessels have been urged to be more vigilant and watch out for pirates when around Somalia coastline.
On January 13, an international maritime organization issued a warning to the owners and crew of such vessels.
The International Maritime Bureau (IMB), which is the property of International Chamber of Commerce, issued the warning on Wednesday.
In its warning, IMB stated that piracy remains a threat in the waters surrounding Somalia.
IMB reminded the foreign vessels that incidences of piracy in the region only reduced but that does not mean it has been completely eradicated.
Incidences of piracy were not reported in either 2019 or 2020.
In 2018, three vessels were reportedly fired at.
Piracy seems to be more common in the Indian Ocean, Arabian Sea, Gulf of Aden, and the Red Sea. Somalia is just as susceptible to piracy as all these other regions.
