Former NISA Chief Warns That Constitutional Amendments Will Cause Divisions

A former National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) chief warns that the ongoing constitutional amendments will cause divisions in Somalia.

Fahad Yasin, who was sacked as NISA chief when President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud stepped into office, issued this warning today.

He was speaking on the day when parliamentarians are expected to vote on the amendments to the Provisional Constitution.

“The amendments to the constitution are only going to put Somalia on a path of destruction and chaos,” said Yasin.

He joins a growing list of leaders who have spoken out strongly against the amendments.

However, President Mohamud and members of his administration have consistently stated that the amendments would proceed as scheduled.
