Former Prime Minister Applauds Parliament for Approving Elections Agreement

Hassan Ali Khaire, Somalia’s immediate former Prime Minister, has applauded the decision by the Lower House and Upper House to approve the newly signed elections agreement.

On Saturday, the House of Representatives and the Senate held a joint session to debate the agreement.

Earlier, reports had circulated on social media showing that a few influential parliamentary leaders wanted to amend the agreement first before approving it.

Nevertheless, they went ahead to endorse the deal.

Khaire has now commended the parliamentarians and senators for opting for a “move that will steer the country towards the path of elections.”

He called for an inclusive, transparent, free and fair electoral process too.

Khaire has thrown his hat into the ring to vie for the presidency in the presidential polls set for March 2021.
