Former Prime Minister Pushes for Consensus on Somalia Electoral Process

The immediate former Prime Minister of Somalia is pushing for consensus on the electoral process in the country.

Hassan Ali Khaire said that the country’s leadership must “embrace consensus.”

The former Prime Minister reminded Somalis of the importance of seeking consensus now before the situation gets worse.

“We must embrace consensus now while preparing for the upcoming elections,” Khaire said.

“If we fail to do that, then we run the risk of disagreeing on the resultant administration, a situation that could push the country towards a dangerous path,” Khaire urged.

He urged Somalis to learn from their neighbors, such as Ethiopia.

Currently, Ethiopia is in a state of unrest after the country’s leaders opted to postpone the much-awaited elections.

Khaire’s comments came a day before presidential candidates from the opposition are scheduled to meet in Mogadishu to discuss several issues related to the upcoming polls.
