Former Prime Minister Warns Somalia against Disputed Electoral Process

A former Prime Minister in the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has warned the country against a disputed electoral process.

Hassan Ali Khaire, who was voted out of office as the Prime Minister by the House of Representatives in July 2020, said this on February 5.

According to Khaire, who has also forwarded his candidature for the upcoming presidential elections, Somalia cannot afford a disputed electoral process.

In his view, a disputed process would lead to a disputed outcome.

“Such an outcome could have serious repercussions for the entire country and the Horn of Africa region too,” ex-Prime Minister Khaire said.

Khaire also believes that a fragile democracy like Somalia’s can ill afford the massive setbacks that electoral disputes could have on the wellbeing of its citizens, systems, and institutions.
