Former Prime Minister Welcomes Somalia’s New Elections Agreement

Hassan Ali Khaire, the immediate former Prime Minister, has welcomed the newly signed elections agreement.

On Thursday evening, leaders meeting at Villa Somalia agreed on a new elections agreement that defines the preferred electoral model and other issues necessary for credible polls.

Khaire, who was removed from office through a vote of no confidence by the House of Representatives in late July, said that the agreement was great for Somalia.

He also welcomed “the preparations being put in place for upcoming elections in the East African nation.”

Furthermore, he congratulated the leaders in Mogadishu who signed the deal.

Khaire urged those in positions of leadership to “implement the provisions listed in the agreement fully.”

He encouraged Somalis to maintain peace in the country since that is a prerequisite for successful elections.

The former premier stated peace is a crucial component for the economy and overall development of the country.
