A former high-ranking Somali military officer has been arrested in the United States over human rights violations.
Lt. Col. Yusuf Abdi Ali Tukeh was arrested in Springfield on Thursday, November 17.
Special agents arrested him for various human rights violations that he committed in the 1980s.
The 69-old former military officer is accused of wide-ranging violations that include torture and cruelty.
He stands accused of arbitrary detention, inhumane, degrading treatment or punishment too.
The US Department of Homeland Security confirmed Lt. Col. Tukeh’s arrest.
Tukeh reportedly committed the offenses between May 1987 and July 1988 when Somalia was under the rule of deceased President Siad Barre.
