Former Somali President Rejects Govt Claims, Warns of Military Weakness

Mogadishu – Former Somali President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed on Wednesday forcefully rejected recent government accusations branding the opposition as “terror sympathizers,” describing the claims as akin to “banging ahead against a wall.”

Speaking at a conference in Mogadishu, Sharif warned that rampant corruption has severely weakened the Somali National Army’s ability to fight Al-Shabaab, the militant group responsible for years of violence across the country.

“The military cannot succeed while corruption eats away at its core,” he stated, urging the government to pursue national dialogue instead of deepening political divides.

He emphasized that political unity and inclusive discussions are the only way to “rescue the nation” from ongoing threats and instability.
