A former Prime Minister of Somalia has died in Hargeisa.
Reports from Mogadishu indicate that Omar Arte died in Somaliland’s capital city on Wednesday, November 18.
His family confirmed the sad news to the public today in the afternoon.
Arte served as the country’s Prime Minister between 1991 and 1993 during the reign of President Ali Mahdi, who led an interim government in that period.
Previously, Arte had also served as Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1969 to 1977.
In that time, Arte played an instrumental role in leading the country into joining the Arab League in 1974.
