Hassan Ali Khaire, the immediate former Prime Minister of Somalia, has traveled to Nairobi, Kenya.
This week, Khaire has been in Djibouti on an official visit. While there, he met with President Ismail Omar Guelleh and other top officials of the Djiboutian government.
On Thursday night, the plane carrying Khaire and his entourage landed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi.
In recent years, Nairobi has been the unofficial base for Somalia’s opposition politicians.
With Somalia set for parliamentary elections in December 2020 followed by presidential polls in February 2021, Nairobi is likely to play a crucial role in its affairs.
While in Nairobi, Khaire is expected to meet with several Somali politicians and leaders as he lays the strategy for his presidential campaign.
Last month, Khaire announced that his name would be on the presidential ballot next year. He made this announcement a month after being voted out of office by the Lower House.
