Former UN Special Envoy to Somalia Retires

A former United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary General to Somalia (UNSRSG) has retired from active duty.

Sir Nicholas Kay was appointed the UN Special Envoy to Somalia on April 29, 2013.

However, it wasn’t until June 3, 2013 that Sir Kay would take over from Augustine Mahiga in Somalia.

His time in the East African nation was quite successful. He brought several political leaders together to sign deals that would put Somalia on the path of peace.

He played a critical role in the signing of the Somalia-UN cooperative agreement, Jubaland agreement, and Garowe bilateral agreement.

Sir Kay announced his retirement from active service and the diplomatic circles on July 31, 2021.

He has also served in countless other stations that include Cuba, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Sudan, and Afghanistan.
