Four people who had traveled from Somalia were intercepted along the border before being sent to an isolation center in Wajir County for quarantined.
Jacob Narengo, the Wajir County Commissioner, confirmed the news saying security agents detained the travelers who were from a COVID-19 hotspot.
As of April 28, Somalia had recorded more than 480 COVID-19 cases. Out of these, the country confirmed 26 deaths and 14 recoveries.
On Tuesday, Narengo said, “We have instructed our officers to stop any person traveling into and out of Kenya for vetting.”
He said this measure is necessary since the government has banned traveling in and out of several counties around the nation to curb the spread of COVID-19.
Further, Narengo confirmed that none of the four quarantined individuals had exhibited COVID-19 symptoms.
Nevertheless, he confirmed that they would remain in quarantine for the mandatory 14-day period, as stipulated by the World Health Organization (WHO).
