Fresh Floods Affect 105,000 People in Somalia

Fresh floods that started in late June have affected over 105,000 people in different parts of Somalia, authorities have announced.

The worst affected regions are Benadir, Jubbaland, Southwest, and HirShabelle.

In HirShabelle state alone, the floods have hit over 40 villages thus rendering thousands of people homeless since last month.

Furthermore, roughly 33,000 hectares of good farmland is now under water. Consequently, this has damaged water wells, latrines, and shelters.

Although authorities have responded to the crisis well, calls for more humanitarian assistance have already gone out.

The crisis is made worse by the fact that the country is currently in the middle of one of the worst pandemics in history – the novel coronavirus.
