The regional state of Galmudug has elected two female senators in the ongoing elections for members of the Upper House.
Galmudug held its elections on Thursday, August 12.
In the process, it became the fourth Federal Member State (FMS) to hold senatorial elections after Jubaland, Southwest, and Puntland in that order.
The two female senators were among the six representatives to the Upper House that were elected.
Somalia is currently electing members of the Senate. Presidential elections are then expected towards the end of the month.
The country seems intent on electing female politicians to the Senate and House of Representatives following results of elections carried out thus far.
