Galmudug State is to receive political and developmental support from the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM).
This was revealed on January 24 during a meeting between Galmudug’s President Ahmed Abdi Karie Qoorqoor and James Swan, the United Nations Special Envoy to Somalia.
Currently, Swan is on a countrywide tour to meet the five leaders of the Federal Member States (FMS) over electoral impasse.
On Sunday, he was in Dhusamareb, the administrative capital of Galmudug for a meeting with President Qoorqoor.
Several senior officers of various UN agencies in Somalia accompanied Special Envoy Swan on his tour of Galmudug.
These included representatives from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the World Food Program (WFP).
The officials reassured President Qoorqoor that the UN agencies would continue supporting political and development projects around the region.
In Galmudug, the most pressing problem is the electoral impasse.
It is not yet clear whether Galmudug, and the rest of the country, would hold parliamentary and presidential elections on time.
