Genel Energy PLC has come under intense criticism for conducting illegal activities in Somalia.
The federal Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources issued a statement dated December 28 condemning the firm for carrying out illegal activities.
In the statement, the Somali government said that it had been monitoring Genel Energy PLC’s “illegal activities” in the East African nation.
Somalia disputed the claims the firm made that it has authorization to “explore and exploit” petroleum resources in the country.
It asked Genel to conform to the dictates of the Provisional Federal Constitution.
Specifically, the government urged the company to familiarize itself with the contents of Article 44 of the constitution.
