Goobjoog Media Group (GMG) has linked President Mohamed Farmaajo to the “illegal” arrest of its journalist, Abdiaziz Ahmed Gurbiye.
Gurbiye’s arrest is the latest attack by the government against the country’s media.
The journalist was arrested on Tuesday and taken to Hodan Police Station. He had reported to the station to honor summons issued against him.
GMG says the journalist, who serves as its editor, was summoned on April 13 for unknown reasons.
When he arrived at the station, Gurbiye, who is also the Deputy Director of GMG, was arrested after being kept waiting for several hours without any explanation.
At the time of his arrest, Gurbiye was in the company of his colleagues. While being arrested, police officers told him that they had received a warrant of arrest from the Attorney General.
