The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has finally acknowledged the election of the President of Jubbaland State, Ahmed Mohamed Islam.
In a statement from Mogadishu, President Farmaajo’s office recognized President Islam as the “President of the Interim Jubbaland administration.”
Furthermore, the statement from the Villa Place recognized the term of the Jubbaland administration as “two years”, which start when the last term ended.
President Islam, who is more commonly known as Madobe, was elected President on August 2019. Since then, Mogadishu has refused to acknowledge his victory.
Farmaajo has often accused him of enjoying the support and backing of Kenya, which has been at loggerheads with Somalia in the recent past.
Madobe defeated the candidate that Farmaajo’s administration had supported.
