Government to Incorporate More Women into Somalia’s Maritime Sector

The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has announced plans to incorporate more women into the country’s maritime sector.

Salah Ahmed Jama, the Deputy Prime Minister, said that the country has to empower more women to improve the whole value chain in the maritime sector.

He was speaking while launching the national action plan for the Women in Maritime Sector (WiMS).

“The government plans to exploit the Blue Economy fully,” Deputy Prime Minister Jama said.

He added that it behooves all stakeholders to evaluate the value chain from the fisherman, buyer, marketer, and investor.

“Women have a critical role to play in this value chain,” the Deputy Prime Minister added.
