Acting Prime Minister Mahdi M. Gulaid chaired a cabinet meeting that discussed Somalia’s response to emergencies.
The cabinet ministers present at the meeting mostly focused on response to the recent flooding, locust invasion, and the COVID-19 pandemic.
As part of measures to improve the country’s emergency response, the cabinet agreed to form a coordination committee to look into the matter.
The committee would be responsible for addressing, prioritizing, and accelerating the government’s emergency mitigating efforts.
Gulaid was chairing his second cabinet meeting since his appointment as acting Prime Minister by President Mohamed Farmaajo a week ago.
