Habargidir clan has endorsed the leader of the opposition Wadajir Party as its presidential candidate in the upcoming elections in Somalia.
The clan made its decision known after a meeting on October 1.
Several top leaders from the community attended the meeting. They included politicians, traditional elders, and women representatives.
Business people and youth representatives were present too.
All those who spoke at the meeting agreed that the clan needed to field its own presidential candidate.
Consequently, they settled on Abdirahman Abdishakur Warsame, the leader of Wadajir Party. The clan fully endorsed his candidature.
Somalia is renowned for the prominent role its clans play in elections and politics.
