MOGADISHU — Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, joined by Defence Minister Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, today led the formal command transition ceremony for the Somali National Army (SNA) at the Ministry of Defence headquarters.
The event marked the official handover of duties from the outgoing Chief of Defence Forces, Major General Odowaa Yusuf Raage, to the incoming commander, Brigadier General Ibrahim Mohamed Mohamud.
Mandate for the New Commander
During his address, the Prime Minister recognized General Odowaa’s contributions and leadership, specifically highlighting the army’s recent tactical accomplishments against Al-Shabaab and the growing public trust in the national forces.
Directing his remarks to the new leadership, PM Hamza instructed Brigadier General Ibrahim to intensify efforts in rebuilding the army structure.
The Prime Minister emphasized a focus on national defence, preserving unity, and the total eradication of militant groups. He reaffirmed government backing for the military, promising to fulfill all requirements for training and equipment.
Ministry Pledges Support
Defence Minister Ahmed Moallim Fiqi characterized the transition as a standard governance procedure, stating that his ministry remains committed to advancing the army’s capabilities, discipline, and resources.
Fiqi expressed gratitude to the outgoing commander for his service and pledged full ministerial support to the new command in their mission to protect national security.
