The headquarters of Haramcad, a special unit in the Somali Police Force (SPF), will now be called Farhan Qarole.
Earlier on Saturday, Major General Abdi Hassan Mohamed Hijar, the SPF Commissioner, led fellow senior police officers in proposing the change of name.
They wanted the building changed in honor of their fallen colleague.
Later on Sunday, Maj. Gen. Hijar declared that the building now has a new name.
Henceforth, it would be known as the Farhan Qarole building.
Qarole was killed towards the end of last week in a deadly explosion carried out by Al-Shabaab militants in Mogadishu.
At the time of his death, he was the Mogadishu police commander.
