Health Minister Discusses Renewed Partnership with UNFPA Somalia Representative

Dr. Fawziya Abikar Nur, Somalia’s Minister of Health, held high-level discussions with Anders Thomsen, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Representative to the country.

Dr. Nur’s discussions with Thomsen revolved around the need for renewing strategic partnership between the health ministry and UNFPA.

The meeting between Nur and Thomsen took place on Wednesday, December 9 at the health ministry headquarters in Mogadishu.

Nur told Thomsen that her ministry has several challenges for which it needs assistance from international partners to resolve.

In 2020 alone, Somalia has grappled with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Children in the country are also at risk of malnutrition following the recent floods that destroyed large swathes of farmland thus increasing food insecurity.
