Health Ministry Encourages More Investments in Somalia’s Mental Health

Dr. Fawziya Abikar Nur, the Minister of Health, has issued a rallying call for more investments in Somalia’s mental health.

The minister made this call during a webinar organized jointly between the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization on November 2.

The theme of the webinar was, “Opportunities and Challenges for Sustainable Mental Health Services in Somalia.”

Dr. Nur addressed participants on the importance of investing in mental health to guarantee a stable future for Somalia.

The health care system in Somalia has been dilapidated for decades because of a dysfunctional government, constant conflicts, and corruption.

Therefore, mental health care has been neglected because of all that. Somalia is now enjoying a bit of stability, hence the increased calls for more investments in healthcare.
