Somalia has delivered heartbreaking news showing that a minimum of six health workers, who include several doctors, have contracted COVID-19.
According to reports from the Ministry of Health, the health workers contracted the virulent disease from a patient in Mogadishu.
Further, the reports have identified the Secretary General of the Somali Medical Association, Dr. Ibraahim Guled, as one of the patients recently diagnosed with the disease.
Somalia has been reeling under the burden of COVID-19 since confirming its first case in mid-March. The number of people diagnosed with Coronavirus has now risen to 80.
Five of the 80 confirmed cases have died and two more have recovered.
The increased cases of COVID-19 have forced the government to institute several measures to protect the public and keep it from spreading further.
It banned domestic and international flights, closed schools, banned public gatherings, and asked Somalis to observe social distancing and embrace the habit of washing hands regularly.
