High-Level Turkish Delegations Arrive in Mogadishu to Discuss Defense and Maritime Infrastructure
MOGADISHU — The Federal Government of Somalia welcomed multiple high-level delegations from Turkey in Mogadishu this week, marking a significant step in the expanding strategic partnership between the two nations across defense and infrastructure sectors.
Maritime Transport Cooperation
On Monday, the State Minister of Ports and Maritime Transport, H.E. Mohamed Abdulqadir Dhule, received a large delegation at Aden Adde International Airport. The visiting team was led by Turkey’s Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, H.E. Durmuş Ünüvar.
The State Minister characterized the visit as crucial for strengthening bilateral relations, specifically in port infrastructure and maritime services essential for Somalia’s economic growth. During their stay, the delegation is expected to engage in official meetings focused on sharing technical expertise and advancing joint initiatives in trade facilitation and connectivity.
Defense Partnerships
In a separate high-level engagement, the Minister of Defense, H.E. Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, hosted a Turkish delegation headed by Ambassador Ali Onaner, Director General of the Africa Department at Türkiye’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The discussions centered on enhancing defense partnerships and military advancement initiatives. The meeting was attended by the Defense Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Abdifitah Abdulkadir Farah, and Turkey’s Ambassador to Somalia, H.E. Alper Aktaş.
These back-to-back visits demonstrate the ongoing commitment of both nations to deepen their long-standing partnership in sectors vital to security, stability, and sustainable economic development
