Governor Ali Jeyte of Hiiraan region has called for stern measures to be taken against local police chiefs and their intelligence colleagues for the recent deadly attack in Beledweyne.
Jeyte called for action against senior officers following the Monday attack in Beledweyne that caused the deaths of 30 people.
He said that around 58 people suffered injuries in the Al-Shabaab suicide attacks.
In his view, police and intelligence chiefs failed to execute their duties properly thus creating space for the terrorists to launch such a devastating attack in the provincial capital.
Following his comments, reports indicate that a local police chief has been arrested.
Isak Ali Abdulle, the Hiiraan police chief, is now in police custody in Mogadishu undergoing interrogation over the deadly blast.
