President Mohamed Abdi Waare approved the appointment of 90 Members of Parliament to the HirShabelle State Regional Parliament.
Reports from Beledweyne, the state’s administrative capital, confirm that the MPs were appointed on Tuesday, October 27.
Their appointment takes place at a time of great confusion in the state.
By virtue of the appointment, the MPs are now free to form a new regional parliament despite complaints of interference by Waare’s administration in the electoral process.
Moreover, Waare’s administration has been accused of manipulating the electoral process with help from President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo.
Last week, Fahad Yasin, the Director of National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), collected the state’s elections file.
