President Ali Gudlawe of HirShabelle State is facing growing pressure to resign from office with immediate effect.
Political wrangles in his regional state coupled with the fresh breakout of violence on January 2 have increased the pressure on his administration.
Currently, Gudlawe is in Mogadishu for the National Consultative Council (NCC) Conference, which kicked off on Monday.
Gudlawe is one of the regional state leaders believed to be close to Somalia’s President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo.
Sunday’s clashes and wrangles saw protestors take to the streets to demand Gudlawe’s resignation as the HirShabelle leader.
The protestors also want Yusuf Dabageed to resign as the Deputy President of HirShabelle.
They accused the two leaders of mismanagement.
Further, protestors called out Gudlawe and Dabageed for failing to handle the frequent flooding and Al-Shabaab attacks in different parts of the regional state.
