President Ali Gudlawe of HirShabelle has published a list of candidates vying for the eight regional Upper House seats.
Gudlawe’s HirShabelle region is the only regional state in Somalia that’s yet to hold even partial senatorial elections.
Some of those seats have attracted more than five candidates.
The eight senators from HirShabelle will join their colleagues from the other regional states to constitute the 54 that will be stationed at the Upper House in Mogadishu.
According to President Gudlawe’s announcement on September 8, the region will first elect six senators.
