HirShabelle has named its representatives to the federal electoral body expected to supervise the upcoming elections.
Outgoing President Mohamed Abdi Waare appointed the members on Sunday, October 25.
An agreement signed last month between Federal Government of Somalia and Federal Member States requires each region to appoint two members each to the electoral commission.
Additionally, the regional states were required to appoint two other members each to the Dispute Resolutions Commission.
However, it is doubtful if the appointments would last since HirShabelle State is currently in the process of preparing for its elections.
Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble had given each federal state up to October 20 to submit names of representatives to the two commissions.
Puntland was the only state that beat last week’s deadline.
Late last week, reports indicated that Fahad Yasin, the Director of the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), had seized the elections file from HirShabelle State.
It was feared that the move was an attempt by President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo to control the electoral process in HirShabelle since Yasin is his close confidant.
