The regional state of HirShabelle has announced plans to hold an election to elect a new lawmaker to replace the recently slain female Member of Parliament (MP).
HirShabelle’s State Elections Implementation Team (SEIT) will hold the poll on Thursday, May 5.
The election will be for the House of the People (Lower House) HOP#135 seat.
The seat’s immediate former MP was Amina Mohamed.
She was murdered last month in Jowhar.
Mohamed had been one of the most vocal female legislators in the country. She never stopped speaking out about issues affecting Somalis around the country.
The regional SEIT has already awarded a certificate of candidacy to two contestants.
