HirShabelle’s Presidential Elections Underway

Currently, HirShabelle presidential elections are underway. The elections kicked off on Wednesday, November 11.

The political mood in the region has been quite high since last week as the state made last minute attempts to prepare for the elections.

Last week, immediate former President Mohamed Abdi Waare resigned from office citing betrayal and lack of support from Mogadishu.

His resignation and subsequent withdrawal left the Deputy President, Ali Guudlaawe, as the favorite to win the elections.

Other candidates threatened to withdraw from the race in the belief that Guudlaawe is the preferred candidate of Mogadishu hence the most likely the new President of HirShabelle.
