Hormuud Telcom has been licensed to start providing mobile money services in Somalia.
The firm, which ranks as Somalia’s largest telecommunications company, received its license from the Central Bank of Somalia (CBS).
The Central Bank issued the license to Hormuud Telcom management on February 27.
While handing over the license, senior personnel from the Central Bank reminded Hormuud that the license is only for the domestic market.
What this means is Hormuud would only cater for the needs of Somalis in the country.
The handing over ceremony took place at Decale Hotel in Mogadishu on Saturday.
