President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud addressed Somalia’s federal parliament with a powerful message affirming Somalia’s sovereignty and rejecting any territorial claims by Ethiopia.
He condemned Ethiopia’s ambitions to claim Somali land, which he stated were based on historical colonial legacies that previously ceded Somali territories.
President Mohamud emphasized this while addressing a joint session of both chambers of parliament on Saturday.
He assured them of his administration’s commitment to safeguard Somalia’s sovereignty, dignity, and resources for future generations.
The President guaranteed parliament that Somalia would align with international allies willing to support its independence and unity.
In a strong rebuttal to suggestions that Somalia relies on Ethiopian troops to combat Al-Shabaab, the President highlighted his country’s successful liberation efforts, achieved solely through the Somali National Army without any military support from Ethiopia.
“This assertion counters narratives that undermine Somalia’s autonomy in its fight against terrorism,” declared President Mohamud.
President Mohamud’s speech reinforced Somalia’s stance on national unity and territorial integrity, signaling a firm approach to external interference and a commitment to an independent path in security and governance.
