Mogadishu, Somalia – On Sunday, the Director General of the Immigration and Citizenship Authority (ICA) of Somalia, Mohamed Duhulow, held a constructive meeting with U.S. Ambassador to Somalia Richard H. Riley and the U.S. Mission’s Chief of Political and Economic Affairs.
The talks focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation in border security management, a critical area in Somalia’s ongoing efforts to strengthen national security and combat cross-border threats. Both sides exchanged views on strategies to improve immigration control, streamline entry and exit procedures, and modernize border infrastructure to meet international standards.
Another key topic was the recognition of Somali passports, an issue central to facilitating international travel for Somali citizens and boosting global mobility. Discussions explored pathways to broaden acceptance of Somali travel documents by other nations, with U.S. support viewed as pivotal in advancing these efforts.
The meeting underscored the shared commitment of Somalia and the United States to deepen security collaboration and foster institutional reforms in Somalia’s immigration sector, contributing to stability, trade, and stronger international engagement.
