The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) pressured Somalia into dialogue with Kenya, the former’s Minister of Foreign Affairs said.
Mohamed Abdirizak, the foreign affairs minister, said that the Extra Ordinary 38th Session of IGAD on December 20 forced them into dialogue with Kenya.
Sunday’s session was held to discuss several issues affecting the region.
Top on the agenda was the ongoing diplomatic spat between Somalia and Kenya.
IGAD held its extraordinary session in Djibouti after receiving a letter of protest from Somalia over Kenya’s interference in its internal affairs.
The authority urged a de-escalation of the growing disagreements between the two East African neighbors.
Somalia accepted the request for ceasefire but only on the condition that IGAD appoints a committee to evaluate its complaints against Kenya.
