IGAD Urges Somalia Leaders to Return to Dialogue

The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) urged leaders in Somalia to return to dialogue soon.

On April 22, IGAD issued a statement welcoming the news that stakeholders plan to resume election talks.

In its statement, IGAD said that dialogue remains an important for building trust and confidence between all stakeholders.

IGAD encouraged the various stakeholders “to give dialogue a chance.”

It also said that the new talks must be “open, frank, and constructive” for the people of Somalia.

“Without such talks, it would be impossible for Somalis to unblock the prevailing electoral and political impasse,” IGAD added.

Political leaders in Somalia have attempted to hold multiple electoral talks in the past without much success.
