Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has welcomed the ongoing talks between the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and the leaders of Federal Member States (FMS).
The talks are taking place in Dhusamareb, which is the administrative capital of Galmudug State.
Among the participants at the talks include President Ahmed Mohamed Islam Madobe of Jubbaland and President Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed Lafta-Gareen of the Southwest state.
Others are President Mohamed Abdi Ware of HirShabelle, President Said Abdullahi Deni of Puntland, and President Ahmed Abdi Kariye Qoorqoor who is hosting the talks.
Somalia’s Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire arrived in Dhusamareb yesterday to join the talks while President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo is expected to jet in on Thursday.
IGAD says the talks between the various stakeholders are crucial in ensuring that the country remains politically stable and secure.
The talks, which kicked off last week, are expected to discuss various issues though the top item on the agenda is the upcoming elections.
