Abdikarim Muse Oldon, a Somaliland journalist who has been in prison in Hargeisa since last year has fallen sick.
Reports indicate that doctors from Hargeisa General Hospital visited him in prison. While there, they took blood samples, which they hope to test to ascertain what ails him.
Rumors have been flying around to the effect that Oldon has contracted the deadly COVID-19, which has already claimed the life of one patient in Somaliland.
Preliminary results from the tests show that he is not infected with the virulent disease. However, authorities said that they plan to send his sample to Nairobi for more definitive tests.
Nevertheless, doctors have also confirmed that Oldon is not only sick but also seemingly suffering from exhaustion.
Human rights organizations and media associations in Somaliland have called on the government to release him on compassionate grounds to allow him return to his family.
