Information Ministry’s Regional Director Killed in Elite Hotel Attack

A regional relations director working with Somalia’s Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism is among those killed in today’s attack at Mogadishu’s Elite Hotel.

The hotel, which is in the famous Lido Beach, is quite popular with Members of Parliament (MPs) and business executives.

On Sunday evening, it was the scene of a deadly attack by suspected militants.

A car bomb exploded just outside the hotel before sounds of heavy gunfire that lasted several hours followed.

Abdirisak Abdi, a regional director with the information ministry succumbed to the deadly gunshots.

Meanwhile, security forces killed two of the attackers though reports indicate that several of militants made their way into the hotel.

The hotel is the property of Abdullahi Ahmed Nur, a local MP.

None of the militant groups in the East African nation has claimed responsibility for the deadly attack that rocked the Mogadishu neighborhood.
