Mohamed Kahin Ahmed, Somaliland’s Minister of Interior, has apologized for the remarks made by his deputy on Sanaag Province.
His deputy had called Sanaag “a turbulent region.”
These remarks did not go down well with local leaders and residents who have accused Kahin’s deputy of “hate speech.”
While apologizing, Kahin asked members of the public to exercise a bit of patience with state officials who are bound to make such statements in the heat of the moment.
Meanwhile, he also asked the locals to bear patience with the government’s decision to postpone the ongoing development projects in the region until peace and security is restored.
He said the leadership of Sanaag – and other regions where violence and conflicts reign supreme – has to restore peace and security.
Otherwise, these regions would continue to lag behind the rest of the country in development.
