The Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs, and Reconciliation has reaffirmed that the issuance of a National Identification Card is an inalienable right guaranteed to every Somali citizen. No individual or entity may obstruct or deny any eligible citizen from obtaining this essential document, as it serves as a cornerstone for legal identity, access to public services, and civic participation.
The ministry further emphasizes that the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) is the sole federal institution legally mandated to produce, register, and distribute National IDs across the country. Any attempt to interfere with this process or issue unauthorized identification documents constitutes a violation of federal law and will be met with appropriate legal measures.
The Somali government remains committed to ensuring that all citizens can exercise their right to a secure and verifiable identity, in line with national laws and international best practices.
